- Akshay Kumar's magic pulls Brothers
By 2000 he was ready to switch over to comedy with a string of lively roles in the remakes that established Priyadarshan in Bollywood. “I cannot imagine making a film without Akshay Kumarâ€, Priyadarshan declared when Bhagam Bhaag , his third comedy with Akshay in the lead became a hit. True enough all the hits of Priyan including Bhool Bhulaiyan, which broke box office records, has Akshay in the pivotal role if not the lead role. In fact, among the directors who gave Akshay the scope and opportunity to reveal his malleability as an actor it is Priyadarshan who stands an inch higher than the others. If it weren’t for Priyan’s Hera Pheri and Garam Masala which turned the year 2000 into a successful year for Akshay, he would not have caught the attention of David Dhawan , the master of comedy in Bollywood, who pitted him opposite Salman Khan in Mujh Se Shaadi Karoge, a runaway super hit in the comedy genre. Akshay’s big time as a star began to roll in 2000 and he made the most of the wonderful opportunities that came his way in the years that followed with such films as Aankhen , directed by Vipul Shah, with Amitabh Bachchan heading the ensemble cast in 2002, Khakee, directed by Raj kumar Santoshi in 2004 with Amitabh Bachchan leading the cast and Waqt The Race Against Time directed by Vipul Shah in2005 also with Amitabh Bachchan heading the cast.
