- Banned, but not by the censors
India is a sensitive nation. Hence, filmmakers must be careful while making their films. Given a choice, they would love to unleash their creative energies and deal with subjects that concern them the most. But the big problem is, they aren’t left with too many options because a stray line used mischievously can be seen as derogatory. There can be moments when the story itself is viewed as ‘wrong’ since it portrays certain incidents, people and relationships in a questionable and/or one-sided manner. In spite of taking precautions, there have been times when films have received a lot of flak, resulting in a ban by the state governments: apart from unofficial bans since the films cannot be screened anyway. The censors are not the culprit all the time. The society is a much more powerful censor board.
