Heroines who married directors

The oldest instance was that of Devika Rani marrying Himanshu Rai. Early in the history of Indian Cinema, a love story unfolded in the course of the production of a silent movie, A Throw of Dice, produced by Himanshu Rai. The pioneering filmmaker engaged a beautiful young lady he met in London where the lively young aspirant was studying music at the Royal Academy of Music. That was Devika Rani who went on to become the first most popular leading lady of Hindi Cinema. Devika Rani was attracted to Himanshu Rai and vice versa despite the age difference of sixteen years between them. Their romance culminated in marriage in 1929.
