She was born to a Muslim father and Hindu mother as 'Roopa Rai' on 7 th January 1957.In her teens her parents separated and she had to accept acting as a profession to look after her family. Her career in films started off with B.R. Ishara's "Nayi Duniya Naye Log" (1973) which was shelved temporarily and the next film 'Zaroorat' was released in 1972 which was with Vijay Arora and Danny and the racy film became a hit. Reena was now called the "Zaroorat Girl."
