- Masaan is a winner all the way
The youth is sure to empathize with Masaan. The restlessness of youngesters today, the flames of passion that burn as a result of this hurried nature and the passion of small towm youth is captured very well in the film. The film, which won accolades at the Cannes Film Festival is an Indo-French venture. Richa Chadha is at her brilliant best. She is a rebel who is unapologetic about her acts. The ghats of Benaras were never depicted so beautifully on the big screen. Even the ghats and burning pyres are filmed brilliantly. Richa as Devi is very convincing. The brilliant composition of Indian Ocean is very melodious which sets the mood of the film. Sanjay Mishra as Devi's father breaks all stereotypes. Devi friend Piyush Agarwal is brilliant in his sexapades with Devi. Devi is working in a coputer center and the very first scene shows her sexapade with his boyfriend which is taken on a smartphone by a policeman. He harrases the father-daughter duo and asks for a bribe of 3 lakhs, or else he would put it on the You Tube and also slap a case against them. The principled father is drifted between two extremes which resuls in a disaster. A parallel love story of a young couple is also running where a boy from a dom community is in love with an upper caste girl. The grim dark realities is depicted in a convincing way. The director Neeraj Ghaywan was an assistant of Anurag kashap and the streak of brilliance shows in the young director. It's not without reason that Bollywood has been tweeting like crazy about Masaan.
