If elected to head the state 72-year-old Anandiben would be the first woman chief minister of Gujarat. A long-standing minister in the Gujarat government she is currently the state's revenue minister who also handles portfolios such as urban development, roads and buildings, capital projects and disaster management. She is the longest serving woman MLA in Gujarat since 1998 and has served as minister in Keshubhai Patel and Narendra Modi governments. In Modi's cabinet, she has been credited with the massive school enrolment programme, elaborate land surveys and digitization of land records.
