Why has this happened? Primarily because, while there are ways and means to establish that the government hasn't been as big a failure as it is made out to be, the average person has reacted to the numerous scams that have taken place during the UPA-2's tenure. Every other story of performance has been brushed under the carpet, while the magnitude of corruption has been such that the ruling coalition led by the Congress has failed to defend it.
