Major Dr. Surendra Poonia has put a phenomenal show to bag 6 medals for India in 36th World Health Games held in Limerick, Ireland. India's 5 participants have won ten medals in total, including three gold, of which 6 medals were won by Major Punia only. A Limca Book of Records holder Major Poonia has won 3 gold 2 silver and 1 bronze medal in the individual events. Out of 46 participating countries, India secured the ninth spot in the tally after Germany, England, France, Algeria, Brazil, Italy, Poland and Ireland. Major Poonia has won 400, 800, 1500 and 5000 meter races in addition to the cross-country race. Major Poonia's name is already there in Limca Book of Records for the most medals in any event. For outstanding contributions in sports, President of India Mr. Pranab Mukherjee has already awarded Dr. Surendra Poonia with "Vishisht Seva Medal" . Major Poonia has also rendered his services to "Parachute Regiment" and "President Bodyguard' as a physician.
