Social media offered mixed reactions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's much awaited address to the nation on the eve of New Year with some hailing the sops announced by him while most of them criticised him for not announcing a way out of the cash crunch.
As Modi, during his post demonetisation address, announced a slew of sops for the poor, farmers and small traders, the groups perceived to be worst hit by the November 8 demonetisation that caused widespread economic upheaval in the country, people took to social networking sites to express their views.
"Pregnant women will get 6,000 bucks for childbirth. That's what you call 'Cash on delivery #ModiSpeech #Mitron," Aksh Arijitian tweeted referring to Modi's scheme aimed at countering maternity mortality rate.
"Modi's speech was so useless that all eminent intellectuals spent their new years eve watching his speech, instead of partying, to find flaws," tweeted @WoCharLo.
A Twitter user with his the name @VoiceOfPM criticised the PM's speech.
"Modi Ji, common man will NOT SPARE you in 2019, BUT giving a CHANCE in coming 2 years to come out clean.. #SaharaDiaries #ModiSpeech," he said.
"50 days Sacrifice ends in discounts on various loans.Sir @PMOIndia we expected lot ,Maybe this much you had for #India in 2016 #ModiSpeech," said Bodhisattwa Guha.
It was not just a speech it was an assurance to Poors farmers old n honest people that this govt is firmly stand with them #ModiSpeech," said another Twitter user.
Many users hailed Modi's address.
"#ModiSpeech today my respect toward my PM becomes double," tweeted one.
"The meltdown of the Lutyens liberals continues unhindered; 50 days are getting longer for them," said another.
"People who planned to take shots whenever Modi says Mitron, gonna sleep sober tonight. ??

But there were some who were sarcastic of Modi's speech.
"Modi is addressing the way engineers write answers. Come to the point Sir," read a tweet.
"Didn't use "Mitron" even once? MODI HAS UNFRIENDED THE NATION," said another referring to Mitron (friends) used often by Modi during his speeches.
Another Twitter user Navin Khaitan asked "How much old currency is back? How much new currency released? Who advised Govt on decisions? PM has NO Answers"!
"Modi just trolled 125 crore Indians on NewYearsEve," said another user.
