Authorities imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar city on Tuesday to prevent protests as the separatists called for a valley-wide shutdown against the killing of a civilian the day before in Pulwama district.

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), a separatist conglomerate headed by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, has called for the shutdown.

On Monday, top Hizbul commander Sameer Tiger and his associate Aquib were killed during a four-hour-long gunfight in the district's Drabgam village.

A stone-pelting mob also clashed with the security forces in the area during which the victim, Shahid, 14, was killed and 15 other civilians were also injured.

The restrictions have been imposed in old city areas of Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, M.R.Gunj and Safa Kadal. Partial restrictions will also remain in force in uptown areas of Maisuma and Kralkhud.

All exams scheduled for Tuesday have been postponed by the University of Kashmir.

Train services between north Kashmir's Baramulla town and Bannihal town in the Jammu region were cancelled.

Mobile internet services have been suspended across south Kashmir.

Shops, business establishments, public transport remained closed in Srinagar city and all other district headquarters of the valley.
