With 22 new cases, Gujarat corona tally goes up to 538 Last Updated : 13 Apr 2020 01:17:35 PM IST file photo With Ahmedabad nearing the 300 mark for Coronavirus positive cases, Gujarat on Monday registered 22 new cases and two deaths, taking the total number of infected cases in the state to 538 with 26 deaths, health officials said.
Out of the 22 new cases, Ahmedabad has 13, Surat (5), Vadodara and Anand (one each) and Banaskantha (2). Total 13 males and 9 females were found infected with COVID-19.A 10-year-old boy from Palanpur is among the 22 new cases."This boy had epilepsy seizures and for that a private medical professional was consulted in Palanpur. The family had arrived to Palanpur from Surat on the day of the lockdown. None of his family members were found positive. So we are contact tracing on the source of his infection," said Jayanti Ravi, the principal secretary, Health and family welfare Department, Gujarat.The health authorities are also checking for the source of another Palanpur case of COVID-19, a male."These two cases from Banaskantha were found during the surveillance which we had started while focusing on our strategy towards the remaining 14 districts of the state, which are not affected or have not reported for virus infection. Now the virus spread has its span covered in 20 of the 33 districts," added Ravi.The health secretary said that in the 14 districts, a total of 1,197 samples were tested out of which, results of 629 were obtained. "Only two from Palanpur (Banaskantha) were found positive, all the rest were found negative," added Ravi.Meanwhile, Ahmedabad continued to lead as more positive cases were found in the state, which now has a total of 538 positive cases. Nearing the 300 mark, Ahmedabad has the maximum positive cases (295), followed by Vadodara (102), Surat (33), Bhavnagar (23), Rajkot (18), Gandhinagar (15), Patan (14), Anand (9), Bharuch (8), Kutch (4), Porbandar and Chhota Udaipur (3 each), Mehsana, Banaskantha and Gir-Somnath (2 each) and Panchmahal, Jamnagar, Morbi, Sabarkantha and Dahod (1 each).Two more positive patients of Corona succumbed to the virus on Monday, as a male (76) with comorbid conditions like heart and lungs problems, admitted in the SVP hospital and another male (27) admitted in the Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS) hospital Gotri, died. The young patient from Vadodara was infected with Dengue and undergoing treatment. Due to lowered immunity he had contracted COVID-19.While 3 positive patients after treatment were discharged. 2 males (36) and (37) both admitted in the Synergy hospital, Rajkot and a male (65) admitted in General Hospital, Veraval, were discharged. Total 47 positive patients after treatment have been discharged so far."Out of the total 465 active cases, the condition of 461 is stable while 4 are on ventilator, their condition being critical," added Ravi."In the last 24 hours, we have taken 2,263 samples for the testing, where 45 have been found positive, 1,945 negative and 273 are pending," added Ravi.The total number of test carried out by the health department till now is 13,257 out of which 538 are positive, 12,446 negative and 273 are pending."The total number of quarantined in the state is 14,204, where 12,584 are home quarantined, 1,442 in government facilities and 178 in private facilities," added Ravi.IANS Gandhinagar For Latest Updates Please-
