Bakers clad in PPE suits were seen are baking biscuits, cakes and other confectionary items in their factories.

 

This Eid, the bakeries which had closed in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak will not open for customers, but will deliver their products at the clients' doorsteps.

 

"Kashmir doesn't have a home delivery system, and we are still adapting to it. I get 400 calls for home delivery daily, but it is not possible to cater to all the customers in the absence of the required infrastructure," said Babbar Choudhary, a bakery owner.

 

The administration has made it mandatory for bakers in Srinagar to conduct Covid-19 test. The administration is training the bakers about personal safety and distribution of bakery products to prevent any chance of coronavirus transmission. Around 500 bakers in Srinagar have been trained.

 

"We are training these bakers and giving them certificates which will also help instil confidence among the buyers. They will also have to undergo Covid-19 test to stamp out any possibility of the spread of the virus," said Srinagar DC Shahid Choudhary.

 

Like the rest of the world, Eid in Kashmir is going to be an extremely low key affair this year. Clearly, the pandemic has changed the way the people live and celebrate their festivals.
