Yathiraj scipted history at the Paralympics this year. The Noida DM bagged a silver medal in badminton's men's singles event of the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. The district magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida) thus also became the first-ever IAS officer to win a medal at the Paralympics.
Suhas won the silver medal in the Tokyo Paralympics after going down fighting in the final of the men's singles SL4 event against France's Lucas Mazur. Lucas won by 15-21, 21-17, 21-15 in 1 hour and 2 minutes at Court 1 -- Yoyogi National Stadium.The Indian shuttler said winning silver at the Paralympics is the biggest thing in his life as he had never thought of bagging a medal at the Paralympic Games.Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian shuttler and tweeted,"A fantastic confluence of service and sports!@dmgbnagar Suhas Yathiraj has captured the imagination of our entire nation thanks to his exceptional sporting performance. Congratulations to him on winning the Silver medal in Badminton. Best wishes to him for his future endeavours.Suhas Yathiraj was born in Hassan, Karnataka on 2nd July 1983. He has an impairment in his ankle, but has never viewed it as a disadvantage.The 38-year-old did not plan to become an IAS officer in the beginning. He used to take keen interest in sports since childhood, and his parents and other family members always gave him full support to fulfill his dreams.After becoming an IAS from Uttar Pradesh cadre in 2007, he won medals for the country in several world class competitions.Suhas also worked in different places in UP and won the appreciation of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He was posted in Gautham Buddha Nagar to bring COVID-19 under control.Suhas has presented his badminton racquet to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The e-auction of the gifts received by the Prime Minister has started. Suhas’s badminton is also included in the list of items that are being auctioned. This e-auction started from 17th September and will continue till 7th October.Importantly, the proceeds from the auction will be spent on namami gange project, a programme initiated for the conservation and rejuvenation of the country's life-giving river Ganga.In the e-auction, the base price of DM Suhas’s racket has been kept at 50 lakhs.Participate in the e-auction by simply logging on to www.pmmementos.gov.in.For Latest Updates Please-
