'Guide': This Dev Anand-Waheeda Rehman film was based on R K Narayan’s novel ‘The Guide.’ It is the story of a guide (Anand) who is spurned by a woman (Waheeda) he helps. He is sent off to jail and subsequent returns as a saint who sacrifices his life for the well-being of a village’s residents. The chemistry between the leading pair and S D Burman’s haunting music are just two of the reasons why the memories of this film can never die.
