Sawan is the fifth month in Hindu calendar. It is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva. It is also known as Shravan. During this month Hindus fast on every Monday for lord Shiva and on every Tuesday for the Goddess Parvati. According to the Hindu calendar, Tuesday of this month is said to be the “Mangala Gauri Vrat.†This month is also considered as the Holy Month for Hindus as it heralds the onset of an auspicious month. There are many do’s and don’ts in this holy month. The meaning of Shravan is to 'hear'. According to many legends mentioned in the Hindu Vedas and Puranas, this month is dedicated to Lord Shiva for marriage, success and prosperity.
