A defence spokesman said Pakistani troops fired with small and medium range weapons at Indian positions in Mendhar and Hamidpur areas in Poonch. "Unprovoked firing from Pakistani side, targeting our positions, started at 9.45pm Friday night at Mendhar and Hamidpur areas along the LoC in Poonch. Our troops retaliated the fire," he said. Amid heightened tension with Pakistan over the LoC killings of Indian soldiers, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said "persistent dialogue" is a better option to normalise ties with neighbours.
