North India on Monday shivered under biting cold as the mercury dipped in several places including Delhi where icy winds blowing, with dense fog adding to the woes by disrupting road, rail and air traffic. It was a foggy Tuesday morning here, with the minimum temperature recorded at 8.9 degrees Celsius, the Met Office said. As many as 25 trains were running late in the region. Whereas on the other side, Mercury in the past 24-hours recorded a major fall in Lucknow with the night temperature hovering around 2.4 degrees Celsius, a drop of over six degrees Celsius than the average temperature recorded during this year's winter. After Lucknow, the coldest place in the state was Meerut where night temperature was recorded at 2.8 degrees Celsius. Moradabad followed with 3.7 degrees Celsius and Kanpur recorded 3.8 degrees Celsius. The regional Met office forecasting a spell of rains later in the day. The night temperatures across the Kashmir Valley on Tuesday continued to be several notches below the freezing point, the Met Office said. However, the minimum temperatures improved in the Jammu region. "The minimum temperature in Jammu city was 6.2 degrees on Tuesday and the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 18 to 19 degrees Celsius." Meanwhile, bone-chilling cold wave conditions continued to sweep across Punjab and Haryana with Chandigarh recording the coldest night of the season so far. As the temperature recorded in Amritsar was 1.9 degrees Celsius.
