Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the campaign to end open defecation in the country. Modi government is encouraging building toilets in every locality of urban areas besides toilets for all in rural areas. The prime minister says that it is shame to find women going to relieve themselves in the open. The problem of open defecation is huge in India and despite government campaign many people are not happy with the idea. According to the United Nations there has to be political will at the "highest level" to address the challenge. The UN report says that the problem of open defecation is deeply rooted in poverty. It is also related to convention and customs in some countries and societies, the report says.
