Sikhs are observing 30th anniversary of Operation Blue Star on Friday and Operation Blue Star is often compared to what Sikhs call 'the great massacre' by the Afghan invader Ahmad Shah Durrani, the Sikh holocaust of 1762. Heavily armed terrorists, led by separatist leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, were flushed out of the Golden Temple complex by the Indian Army in its Operation Bluestar in Amritsar in the first week of June 1984. Operation Bluestar was a military operation ordered by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to remove the Sikh separatists holed up inside the Golden Temple.
