What was supposed to be a day full of devotion and prayers along with celebrations turned out to be one of the saddest days for the Haj pilgrims and their relatives. Little did the swelling crowd know, when they were at the last leg of the Haj Pilgrimage and the celebrations were about to begin, that the occasion would turn out to be a mourning affair, the memories of which will send a shiver down the spines lifelong. More than 450 people lost their lives as they were performing the ritual of pelting the stone at the three pillars. The crowd became uncontrollable as everyone wants to come on the same spot to perform the ritual. This resulted in a stampede which killed hundreds and left several injured. The figure is rising with each passing minute…and we are counting helplessly.
