- Skoda launched Superb at Rs 22.68 lakhs
Skoda Auto India Pvt. Ltd on Tuesday launched the third generation of its premium sedan Superb, priced at Rs.22.68-29.37 lakh, ex-showroom Mumbai. The Volkswagen group company claimed the new Superb is more powerful and 30% more economical in terms of fuel efficiency than the outgoing generation. Skoda said it will also reintroduce the exclusive Laurin and Klement moniker which will be placed at the top of the model range. The model will be available at all company dealerships from Tuesday. In the 10 months from April 2015 to January, the local arm of the Czech car maker sold 12,699 units, up 3% over a year ago, according to lobby group Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers. This was during a period when the broader passenger car market expanded 10% to 1.6 million units over the year-ago period. To be sure, the company’s innings in India have been a rather chequered one with poor sales and service issues marring its reputation in the past. Having sorted the service issues, Skoda is now looking to expand month-on-month, the company's officials said at the launch. An absence of a new model in its line-up has also been a reason for low volumes.
